You can download a series of checklists here to help prepare for the flu season.

The flu season is on the way, and experts say it might be a bad one. The H1N1 virus is spreading and has been classified a pandemic – active in many countries around the world.

Research shows that small and medium sized firms do not have pandemic business continuity plans in place and do not have the dedicated resources required to respond adequately to a health crisis. You need to pre-plan for any eventuality that may occur in your workplace.

The federal government has given the International Centre for Infectious Disease (ICID) in Winnipeg, in partnership with the Canadian Chamber of Commerce (of which the Surrey Board of Trade is a member), a $926,600 contract to develop tools and strategies that businesses can adapt to their own individual needs in the months ahead.

We’ve collected a series of checklists, to help you plan for the flu season. Please download them and run through them before the fall.

The main thing is to protect yourself by:
  • Washing your hands often and thoroughly in warm, soapy water or using hand sanitizer
  • Coughing and sneezing in your arm, not your hand
  • Keeping common surfaces and items clean and disinfected
  • Staying home if you’re sick, unless directed to seek medical care
The Federal Government is coming out with a Swine Flu Vaccine, available for all Canadians this Fall. More information will be circulated on this through the media and the Surrey Board of Trade.
