The Surrey Board of Trade is now accepting nominations for the 6th Annual Surrey’s Top 25 Under 25 Awards.  Potential recipients are business and community minded people under the age of 25, either working in Surrey or working on a business or community related project in/for Surrey.

Nomination Deadline:  Wednesday, May 4, 2016

Award Criteria:

  • Must be working on/worked on a business or community project in Surrey (including students) and/or;
  • Must be working in the Surrey business community and/or;
  • Must be contributing/have recently contributed to a business or community related project in Surrey and;
  • Must be 25 years of age or younger prior to May 26, 2016.

The Surrey Board of Trade is pleased with the recent Surrey Council Report indicating funding growth for Surrey’s cultural grant program. The budget allocation for 2016 increased from $200,000 to $300,000.

2016 saw a 76% increase in Expression of Interest (EOI) letters from cultural groups. In 2015 only 57 EOI’s were received in 2015, with 81 being received for 2016.

On Tuesday, March 8th, the Surrey Board of Trade will host the 7th Annual Surrey Women in Business Awards Luncheon, with Presenting Sponsor Vancity Savings Credit Union.  This event recognizes the hard work of Surrey’s businesswomen and their contributions to the community.

The Surrey Board of Trade presented the 9th annual SBOT review of the Surrey Budget to Mayor Linda Hepner, Chair Tom Gill and Council at the Finance Committee meeting late last week at Surrey City Hall. The City’s Utilities Budget was released in November 2015 and the City’s Operations/Capital Budget was released in February 2016. Each year, as part of its mandate, the Surrey Board of Trade reviews public sector spending and, where appropriate, suggest ways to maximize productivity of the local economy and encourage growth in the private sector.

This morning the Surrey Board of Trade hosted the first Surrey Mayor’s Breakfast Series with Surrey Mayor Linda Hepner and featured guest Amarjeet Sohi, Federal Infrastructure & Communities Minister, sponsored by Cascade Aerospace.

Business and community leaders filled the Council Chamber Theatre to hear the initiatives of Surrey City Hall and keynote speaker, Minister Sohi. In all more than two hundred people attended the inaugural event.

At today’s Surrey Board of Trade 2016 Economic Forecast Lunch, the Surrey Board of Trade (SBOT) launched their Youth Entrepreneurship and Advocacy Action Plan (YEAAP).

“One-third of Surrey’s population is under the age of 19. As a business organization we have a responsibility to support our youth in entrepreneurship activity. They are our future workers and entrepreneurs,” said Anita Huberman, CEO, Surrey Board of Trade.
