The Agriculture sector plays a significant role in Surrey’s economy, with Surrey’s expansive agricultural land base defining much of the city, albeit, roughly 7,500 acres is under utilized or non-productive. Most of this land is comprised of small parcels. Over 1/3 of land in Surrey (or 9,290 hectares) is within the Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR), which is the provincial zone in which agriculture is recognized as the priority use. Surrey farms accounted for over $167 Million dollars, and employ over 3,300 workers of Surrey’s labour force.
The Surrey Board of Trade will welcome BC’s Agriculture Minister Lana Popham talk about how her mandate supports innovation and growth within B.C’s agriculture industry.
Plus, help us recognize the outstanding achievements of an individual or organization that has made a positive impact to Surrey’s agricultural industry, as we present them with the 1st Surrey Agriculture Leadership Award!
