Surrey Board of Trade to Induct New Board Chair on June 27th – Stephen Dooley

The Surrey Board of Trade will induct its 54th Board Chair on June 27 at Eaglequest Golf Course (7778-152 Street) at a members-only Annual General Meeting and Chair’s Dinner event  from 5:30-8:30pm. Stephen Dooley, Executive Director of SFU-Surrey, will be inducted following a two-year term by Dr. Greg Thomas, President, of G3 Consulting, an aquatic environmental consulting firm based in Surrey.

“I am humbled and honoured to be the 54th Chair of the Surrey Board of Trade during the 100th year of Surrey’s business organization. I follow in the footsteps of many amazing leaders, most recently Dr. Greg Thomas. I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to roll up my sleeves with my fellow board directors to support and further the needs and interests of the business community in Surrey,” said Stephen Dooley, incoming Surrey Board of Trade Chair.

“I’ve known Steve for more than 15 years. I welcome him to the role of Board Chair as we continue our leadership-oriented city-building advocacy and projects as we prepare to be the largest city in British Columbia. The Surrey Board of Trade has a responsibility and accountability to ensure that Surrey receives the infrastructure investments that the city needs to ensure a sustainable, thriving and livable city for our businesses and their employees,” said Anita Huberman, CEO, Surrey Board of Trade.

The role of Board Chair serves as Chief Governance Officer for the Surrey Board of Trade to ensure that the Board of Directors have a visionary future of not only the organization but also for city building initiatives in Surrey.

ABOUT STEPHEN DOOLEY:

Stephen Dooley is the Executive Director of Simon Fraser University – Surrey.

Stephen Dooley has been a fixture in the Surrey community for more than 20 years. He became the second Executive Director of the SFU Surrey campus on November 1st, 2013. In this role he continues to advance SFU’s engagement with the community in Surrey and aligns campus programming in such areas as clean energy, health, creative technologies and entrepreneurship to the business and community needs of Surrey.

As SFU Surrey campus director, Steve sits on a number of community partnership tables and has been co-chair of the City of Surrey Social Innovation Summit. Steve also chairs the Surrey Board of Trade’s Youth Entrepreneur Team. Steve remains active in community-based research projects and is the lead for a recent study of refugee settlement and integration with the City of Surrey.
