SURREY VAISAKHI NEWS: Surrey Board of Trade Supports ‘Go Foam Free Initiative’ for Surrey Vaisakhi Parade

The Surrey Board of Trade participates annually in Surrey’s Vaisakhi Parade, taking place this Saturday, April 20, 2019.

The Sabharwal family, and their Surrey business Copytek Print Centre, started the ‘Go Foam Free Initiative’ to reduce and eventually eliminate foam product use at the very popular and well-attended Surrey Vaisakhi Parade.

“Over 500,000 people celebrate Surrey’s Vasaikhi Parade. We want to divert as much as two to three million foam items from ending up in the landfill,” said Baljit Singh Sabharwal of Copytek. “Vendors need to use different materials for food service,” continued Sabharwal, noting more than 200 vendors are expected at this year’s celebration.

The Surrey Board of Trade has joined the ‘Go Foam Free Initiative’.

“We will not be giving out water bottles this year,” said Anita Huberman, CEO, Surrey Board of Trade. Instead the Surrey Board of Trade will be giving out apples and having a fun activity for the kids. Visit their booth – right in front of Copytek Print Centre – on 124 Street and 82 Avenue.

The Surrey Board of Trade will be releasing their Plastics Policy in early May to the BC Government. The Surrey Board of Trade is also the only business organization as a member of Metro Vancouver’s Zero Waste Committee.

“All of us make decisions every day that impact how much garbage we send to the landfill – let’s do our part,” continued Huberman.
