ADVISORY: SURREY ECONOMIC RECOVERY COALITION CREATED TO EXPEDITE AND LEAD BACK-TO-BUSINESS FRAMEWORK

Surrey, BC: Business organizations in Surrey and White Rock have come together to form the Surrey Economic Recovery Task Force, to advocate for a regional economic recovery plan to restart the economy and provide back-to-business support to Surrey and White Rock businesses.

Each major business organization in Surrey and White Rock have signed on to the call to action: Surrey Board of Trade, Newton Business Improvement Association, Downtown Surrey Business Improvement Association, Fleetwood Business Improvement Association, South Surrey/White Rock Chamber of Commerce, Cloverdale District Chamber of Commerce, White Rock Business Improvement Association and the Cloverdale Business Improvement Association.

“The long term social and economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic will be profound,” says Surrey Economic Recovery Task Force spokesperson Laura Ballance.

“Every region is going to have its own unique challenges and circumstances,” continued Ballance. “Now is the time to bring together all businesses in Surrey’s economic spectrum to work on practical ideas and implementation to restart the economy and provide active back-to-business support. Surrey is a vital component of BC’s economy and is positioned to be the largest city in the province with a diversified industry base, which includes the greatest number of manufacturers in BC, all of which contribute to national and global supply chains.”

“This isn’t about working at odds with the government, but rather to work with all levels of government, allowing Surrey’s diverse industry base to be part of the broader solution, and ensuring the strategy and support takes place in a responsible and timely manner.”

The group commits to work with its extensive network and member-businesses to ensure its broader business community is included in the development of a Surrey economic recovery plan that will be focused on  providing on-the-ground support and communication to businesses and their workplaces.

The Surrey Economic Recovery Task Force represents over 9,500 businesses in Surrey and White Rock across a wide variety of sectors.
