Surrey Board of Trade Says BC and Japan Cooperation Agreement Signals Transportation Innovation to Move People

Today, Ravi Kahlon, Minister of Jobs, Economic Recovery & Innovation,  co-signed a new memorandum of co-operation with Tatsuhiko Takesada, President and CEO of Japan Overseas Infrastructure Investment Corporation for Transport and Urban Development (JOIN). The agreement intends to have BC and JOIN share ideas on transportation projects and priorities, including infrastructure projects, urban development, railways, ferries, port terminals, and airports.

“The Surrey Board of Trade is pleased with this new memorandum of cooperation that hopefully will signal much needed opportunities for technology innovation for transportation systems within Surrey and within the South Fraser economic region,” said Anita Huberman, President & CEO, Surrey Board of Trade.

Further, the Surrey Board of Trade has been calling for the federal government to pursue these types of international relationships as it relates to digital technology.

“Japan is a nation with similar values, geographies, and climates to BC. They are seen as leaders and pioneers in developing technology and innovative solutions in the face of natural disasters, density issues, and many other areas.”
