Surrey Board of Trade Selected to Help Address Racism and Systemic Inequities

On June 14, the BC Government launched the BC Demographic Survey to gather data to help identify and eliminate systemic racism from government services. The Surrey Board of Trade has been selected as one of 35 organizations to receive a grant to help promote the survey in the community.

“The Surrey Board of Trade was pleased to be one of the only business organizations to receive this grant,” said Jasroop Gosal, Policy & Research Manager of the Surrey Board of Trade. “As part of such a large and diverse city, we want to help ensure that the voices of Surrey are heard through this survey. ”

The Anti-Racism Data Act allows government to safely collect race-based data through the BC Demographic Survey.

  • The survey is open until Sept. 29, 2023.
  • The Province also released 12 priorities for anti-racism research on May 29, 2023, which were developed in collaboration with the Anti-Racism Data Committee and Indigenous Peoples.
  • Results from the BC Demographic Survey will enable that research.
  • The research priorities are available online: antiracism.gov.bc.ca/our-research-priorities
