Surrey Board of Trade Submits 2024 Federal Budget Ask

The Federal Government invited the public and stakeholders to provide key budget recommendations in advance of their 2024 Federal Budget. The Surrey Board of Trade put forward its submission.

“The Surrey Board of Trade provides input on budgets to all levels of government to help business,” said Anita Huberman, President & CEO, Surrey Board of Trade. “This federal budget needs to support business.”

For the 2024 Federal Budget, the Surrey Board of Trade listed seven priorities:

1.     A comprehensive tax review

2.     Increased electrical vehicle battery recycling plants

3.     Guaranteed support and funding of port infrastructure projects

4.     Omission of oil and gas projects from sustainable finance taxonomies

5.     Accelerated Permanent Federal Transit Fund to begin in 2024

6.     Limited interest rate increases and a focus on fiscal prudence and achieving budget surpluses in the next 5 years

7.     Creation of a blockchain centre of excellence and research institute in each region in Canada (West, North, Eastern, Atlantic), stimulate research and development, and work with international partners to build innovation in the blockchain sector
