Surrey Board of Trade Applauds City’s Cannabis Framework Survey Initiative

The Surrey Board of Trade welcomes the City of Surrey’s proactive step towards establishing a thoughtful and regulated approach to cannabis retail within the community.

“As the City invites public input through the Retail Cannabis Framework Survey, the Surrey Board of Trade supports a framework that is developed collaboratively with the cannabis industry and the public,” said Anita Huberman, President & CEO, Surrey Board of Trade. “Surrey can implement a safe and efficient cannabis regulatory framework, including amendments to zoning bylaws, business licence bylaws, bylaw notice enforcement bylaws, and municipal ticket information bylaws.”

In the March 2023 Surrey Board of Trade Report, recommendations were indicated for a healthy and robust cannabis industry sector in Surrey.

As a rapidly growing industry that contributes over $17 billion to the Canadian economy annually, the legal cannabis industry creates thousands of direct jobs, with tens of thousands of ancillary jobs linked to its success.

“We hope that the framework implementation happens this Spring.”

We need to keep telling the economic story of the cannabis industry. The industry has led to the creation of thousands of new jobs, hundreds of millions in infrastructure investment, reinvigorated retail areas and spurred new innovative technologies, processes and products. The economic footprint of cannabis in Canada is continuing increase and the industry must find new ways of sharing this good news.
