The Surrey Board of Trade commends HTEC for their visionary H2 Gateway project, which aims to significantly reduce emissions in the transportation sector through the establishment of an interprovincial network of hydrogen refuelling stations. This ambitious project will not only support the deployment of fuel-cell vehicles but also advance greener transportation solutions across British Columbia.
HTEC’s plan includes the construction and operation of up to 20 hydrogen refuelling stations, with 18 of these located in BC. The project will be further supported by three new electrolyzers in Burnaby, Nanaimo, and Prince George, and a facility in North Vancouver designed to liquefy 15 tonnes per day of byproduct hydrogen. These efforts are expected to create more than 280 full-time jobs, benefiting both the economy and the environment.
“We are thrilled with HTEC’s H2 Gateway initiative, which positions British Columbia at the forefront of sustainable transportation,” Anita Huberman, President & CEO of the Surrey Board of Trade, stated. “Surrey is already home to hydrogen technology and fuel producers and stands ready to be a pivotal part of this green transition. We strongly advocate for the expansion and investment in Surrey’s hydrogen hub to maximize the economic and environmental benefits of this project.”
Surrey is uniquely positioned to leverage the H2 Gateway project, thanks to its existing hydrogen infrastructure and the presence of key industry players. By expanding Surrey’s hydrogen hub, we can:
Support Local Businesses: Enhance the growth of hydrogen technology and fuel producers in Surrey.
Create Jobs: Generate employment opportunities in construction, operation, and maintenance of hydrogen infrastructure.
Boost the Economy: Strengthen Surrey’s position as a leader in green technology and sustainable solutions.
“The H2 Gateway project is a significant step towards a cleaner, more sustainable future. Investing in Surrey’s hydrogen hub will not only reduce emissions but also spur economic growth and innovation in our region.”
The Surrey Board of Trade urges government and industry stakeholders to prioritize investments in Surrey’s hydrogen infrastructure to ensure the success of the H2 Gateway project and the broader development of regional hydrogen hubs across the province.
