Surrey City Council has approved the award of a contract to Archistar Pty. Ltd. for an automated rule-based zoning bylaw compliance tool named ‘eCheck.’ This tool, contracted for a three-year term, aims to streamline zoning bylaw compliance issues in residential building permit applications, significantly enhancing the quality of applications and expediting the permitting process.
“The introduction of eCheck is a significant advancement for Surrey’s development community,” said Anita Huberman, President & CEO, Surrey Board of Trade. “This tool aims to streamline the permitting process, reduce administrative bottlenecks, and ultimately contribute to faster housing development.”
The eCheck software allows single-family developers to review their submissions for initial compliance with the City’s zoning requirements before formal application. It provides instant feedback, improves the quality of submissions, and complements the role of plan checkers.
City staff will begin implementing eCheck with a planned rollout later this year.
