The Surrey Board of Trade (SBOT) is pleased to see today’s announcement that the Provincial Government is moving forward with plans for transit-oriented development along the Surrey-Langley-SkyTrain route with the purchase of 14 properties. The initiative will bring 700 new homes, retail spaces, child care facilities, and other community amenities near key transit hubs, fostering growth in key sectors.
“These developments mark a crucial step toward building transit-friendly communities, supporting both housing and economic growth in Surrey,” said Jasroop Gosal, Interim Spokesperson for the Surrey Board of Trade. “However, to truly meet the needs of a rapidly growing city, we must also invest in complementary infrastructure assets, including schools, and expanded arts and culture facilities, to create vibrant, complete communities.”
The SBOT emphasizes the importance of strategic planning to ensure these transit hubs include not only housing but also a diverse range of services, businesses, and cultural spaces. These developments provide Surrey with an unparalleled opportunity to develop a dynamic urban environment that meets the needs of both businesses and residents.
As Surrey continues to grow, the SBOT remains committed to working alongside all levels of government to ensure that necessary infrastructure is in place, promoting economic development, and fostering a rich arts and culture sector.
