BC Election Results Signal Opportunity for Strategic Investment in Surrey

The results of the recent British Columbia election saw a victory for Premier David Eby and the BC New Democratic Party (NDP) alongside significant gains by the Conservative Party of BC across multiple ridings. With these shifts in political representation, the Surrey Board of Trade (SBOT) is urging the Provincial Government to prioritize strategic investments in Surrey to address its critical infrastructure and service needs.

“The Surrey Board of Trade congratulates Premier Eby and all of the candidates that were elected in Surrey,” said Jasroop Gosal, Interim Spokesperson and Policy & Research Manager for the Surrey Board of Trade. “Surrey is set to become the largest city in British Columbia within the next five years and remains pivotal to BC’s economic landscape, yet a persistent gap in infrastructure investment has left this vital city struggling to keep pace with other major urban centres. We are eager to work closely with the Provincial Government to deliver the essential assets and infrastructure that will sustain Surrey’s growth.”

Calls to Action:

  1. Incumbent and newly elected MLAs to meet with Surrey’s business community to hear their concerns and their needs.
  2. Provincial Government to allocate funding and resources for transit, healthcare facilities, education, and social infrastructure to empower businesses and communities in this high-growth area.
  3. Work with Surrey Mayor and Council to ensure the current and future needs of Surrey are met to sustain the fast-paced growth.

As one of the top five chambers of commerce and boards of trade out of 430 across Canada, SBOT is a dedicated city-building business organization representing Surrey’s dynamic business community.

“SBOT looks forward to productive engagement with the BC Government to address the urgent needs of our city and fulfill the promise of a well-supported, vibrant, and inclusive Surrey.”
