The Surrey Board of Trade welcomes the Government of Canada’s announcement of the Canadian Trade Gateway for Nuclear Development, a strategic initiative to bolster Canadian trade, investment, and job creation in the Indo-Pacific region. This forward-looking plan positions Canada as a leader in nuclear innovation while unlocking new economic opportunities for businesses nationwide.
“Canada’s nuclear development sector has immense potential to drive clean energy solutions, foster innovation, and create high-quality jobs,” said Jasroop Gosal, Interim Spokesperson for the Surrey Board of Trade. “The focus on leveraging this expertise for trade in the Indo-Pacific reflects a strategic approach to fostering economic growth and energy security both domestically and internationally.”
The initiative will facilitate partnerships between Canadian nuclear technology innovators and Indo-Pacific markets. The SBOT has long advocated for policies supporting the exploration and development of uranium and thorium resources in BC and across Canada to address global energy demands sustainably.
The Indo-Pacific region accounts for a significant share of global energy consumption. By expanding its presence in this market, Canada strengthens its trade relationships, diversifies its export portfolio, and enhances its economic resilience.
“BC has the potential to benefit from this federal decision, however, it must end the moratorium on thorium and uranium exploration.”
The Surrey Board of Trade encourages continued federal and provincial support for nuclear innovation, resource development, and market diversification.
