Surrey Board of Trade Applauds Long-Term Public Transit Investment for TransLink

The Surrey Board of Trade applauds the Federal Government’s commitment to public transit through the Canada Public Transit Fund (CPTF), which will provide TransLink with up to $663.7 million over ten years, from 2026 to 2036. This funding aims to support the development of sustainable, inclusive, and accessible transit systems across Metro Vancouver.

“The allocation of these funds is a vital step toward ensuring long-term, predictable investments in public transit infrastructure. This is what the Surrey Board of Trade has been advocating for,” said Jasroop Gosal, Interim Spokesperson for the Surrey Board of Trade. “This funding will not only support Metro Vancouver’s growing population but also enhance economic growth, workforce mobility, and environmental sustainability.”

Starting in 2026-27, the CPTF will deliver an average of $3 billion annually across Canada to address local needs by enhancing transit and active transportation options. For TransLink, the $663.7 million in funding will be contingent upon submitting a capital plan and signing a funding agreement with the Federal Government. This ensures accountability while aligning investments with community and business priorities.

“Reliable transit infrastructure is fundamental for economic growth,” added Gosal. “As one of the fastest-growing municipalities in Metro Vancouver, Surrey requires robust transit solutions and investments to meet the increasing demands of businesses and residents alike.”
