The Surrey Board of Trade is acknowledging the news that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced his decision to step down as Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada and Prime Minister of Canada, once a successor is selected.
“We respect the decision made by Prime Minister Trudeau and appreciate his service to our country,” said Jasroop Gosal, Interim Spokesperson and Policy & Research Manager of the Surrey Board of Trade. “As the leader of our nation, he has played a significant role in shaping Canada’s economic and social landscape, including his efforts to support businesses and communities during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
The prorogation of parliament is a significant concern for the Surrey Board of Trade, as it will terminate essential committees like the US-Canada Relations Committee, at such a pivotal time. This committee plays a vital role in fostering strong economic ties between our two countries, and its dissolution will undoubtedly hinder progress on key trade and economic initiatives.
“As we move forward, our organization will continue to advocate for the interests of Surrey businesses and the community at large,” added Gosal. “We look forward to working with the new leader of the Liberal Party and the next Prime Minister of Canada to address the pressing issues facing our business community such as reducing red tape, addressing over-taxation, increasing foreign investment, and building a stronger and healthier economy.”
The Surrey Board of Trade will be monitoring the developments in Ottawa and will provide updates and analysis on how the change in leadership may impact the business community in Surrey and beyond.
