The Surrey Board of Trade and the South Surrey & White Rock Chamber of Commerce congratulate Prime Minister Mark Carney on his election victory and look forward to working collaboratively with the new Federal Government to strengthen Canada’s economy and communities.

“Canada’s future prosperity depends on bold, decisive leadership,” said Joslyn Young, CEO of the Surrey Board of Trade and Acting Executive Director of the South Surrey & White Rock Chamber. “We urge the new government to focus on removing internal trade barriers, strengthening international trade relations, modernizing the tax system to foster innovation, investment, and economic growth, and supporting the small and medium-sized businesses that are the backbone of our economy.”

In addition to critical economic priorities, the Surrey Board of Trade and the South Surrey & White Rock Chamber emphasize that socio-economic challenges must not be overlooked. A focus on workforce development, affordable housing, healthcare, public safety, education and infrastructure investments are essential to ensuring inclusive and sustainable growth for all Canadians.

“Surrey and White Rock are among the fastest-growing regions in the country,” added Young. “Our communities are dynamic economic drivers that require smart investments and policies that support both businesses and residents.”

Both organizations call for immediate attention to:

  • Eliminating interprovincial trade barriers to improve competitiveness and productivity.
  • Expanding international trade relations to diversify Canada’s economic opportunities.
  • Reforming the tax system to simplify compliance, promote business innovation, and support small and medium enterprises.
  • Addressing socio-economic priorities such as housing affordability, skills training, healthcare capacity, public infrastructure and a modern immigration system.
  • Supporting small and medium-sized businesses through targeted programs, access to capital, and regulatory reform.
