Colombia Fact Sheet
Colombia, officially Republic of Colombia, Spanish República de Colombia, country of northwestern South America. Its 1,000 miles (1,600 km) of coast to the north are bathed by the waters of the Caribbean Sea, and the Pacific Ocean washes its 800 miles (1,300 km) of coast to the west. The country is bordered by Panama, which divides the two bodies of water, on the northwest, by Venezuela and Brazil on the east, and by Peru and Ecuador on the south. Colombia is the Second Most Biodiverse Country in the world, only second to its massive neighbour Brazil. Colombia is also one of only 17 countries in the world classified as “megadiverse.” One out of every ten species can be found in Colombia. 1/10th of all species on EARTH! The key is its varied eco-systems. Colombia has deserts, rainforests, Andean cloud forests, and wide-open savannahs, allowing almost every kind of organism to thrive. Colombia’s unique way of life is highlighted in The Book of Warmth.
