Fact Sheet

Guatemala is located in the centre of the American continent, bordering Mexico to the North-West, Honduras and El Salvador to the South-East. It has coastlines on the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, with active port access on both coasts. Aside from its strategic location, Guatemala is an attractive trade partner for a number of reasons, including its stable economy and business environment.

Its economy is characterized by low inflation and growth volatility rates, with a large pool of workers and a currency (Quetzal) that has historically been stable. Guatemala is rich in natural resources and it was the first coffee producing country to establish a denomination of origin system. With more than 360 microclimates, Guatemala is ranked as a megadiverse country. Foreign investment is welcomed and it has implemented systems to expedite export procedures and import requirements. Guatemala’s industrialization process creates opportunities for high-value-added goods, such as machinery and equipment, consumer goods, and food products. Spanish, being the official language, is one of the 23 languages spoken in the country, amongst them: K’iche, Kakchikel, Q’ekchi, Mam, Garifuna as well as Xinka. English is spoken as business language.
